Hugs for Sophie please.........

Sophie is a bit upset right now, so any hugs or cuddles you want to send would be appreciated. She just went upstairs and found her hamster Nibbles dead.......
It was just lying by the wheel, she was fine this morning, and running happily round the cage, but she was very old for a hamster, 2 and a half, and was very active. More than likely her little hamster heart gave up on her. Sophie has known for awhile that she was very old, but nevertheless despite trying her best to be brave she is rather upset.
Just waiting for Nev to get home so we can sort everything out...... *sighs*

Message for Sophie: I had three hamsters and always did my best to keep them happy. We knew they would die eventually and we all cried when they did. If he was active and ran around a lot (one of mine used to climb up the curtains!) then he was a happy hamster. And that's always the best thing you can do for him.

I just read that to Sophie and she smiled, and said to tell you that her's although it didn't like being picked up would crawl all over the roof of the cage, swinging like a monkey so she was very happy.

I know would you believe that both kids called their hamsters the same, and neither of them knew what the other was calling them. Mind you the kids are pretty close....
She's ok, being brave, have moved the cage and stuff from her room, and just waiting for Nev to get back, cos I don't want to start sobbing sorting everything out and I will cos I'm a big sap!

Poor Sophie, but Nibbles must've had the best life a hamster could have with her, and a long one too. Are you going to bury him with ceremony?

We just did, popped her with her favourite toys in a weightwatchers cookie bites box, and lifted one of the slabs on the patio, so that no other critter could dig her back up. Sophie was very brave, and Nev was very Dad like....
Awwwwww, it's sad but it's kind of a real family feeling too.... even Mike had a sob....
